Cooking In Season

Pumpkins

From apples to pears to pumpkins, the fruits and vegetables of autumn are irresistible. Whether eaten ripe off the tree or cooked over a stovetop, fall's bounty will fill your house with warmth and a delicious aroma.

In this month's roundup of seasonal recipes, we offer a cornucopia of dishes that feature fall's favorite ingredients including apple cider, sweet potatoes, maple syrup, butternut squash, and of course, apples, pears and pumpkins. Some have a different twist such as butternut squash on a pizza or apple cider turned into doughnuts with a little help from flour, brown sugar, and plain yogurt. As for the pumpkin soup recipe, consider serving the soup in little hollowed out pumpkins.

Meanwhile, do keep an apple close by ... along with a handy wipe ... for as long as fall continues to swirl around us we can taste the juices of its harvest!
